About

CooperRiis is a non-profit residential healing community based in Asheville, NC, for adults with mental health challenges. Since its launch in 2003, it has supported nearly 2,000 individuals on their path to sustaining their mental health and independence. It is committed to personalized care with the help of a supportive community. Short- and long-term residential mental health programs provide a continuum of care for adults 18 years or above, of all backgrounds and identities, at different stages of the recovery journey.

William Anixter, M.D., is a psychiatrist at CooperRiis. He is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and a Diplomate of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. He interned at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute and completed a psychiatric residency at George Washington University.

Eric Levine, Ed.D, President and CEO of CooperRiis, has more than 30 years of working in education and mental health and brings vast experience helping individuals affected by the challenges of mental illness and disabilities move toward healthy and fulfilling lives. Levine began his career as a special education teacher, later overseeing schools for children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral disabilities. In 2005, he founded an educational consulting firm that helps children and their families in the Washington-Baltimore metro areas find appropriate services. Since 2016, he has been the Executive Director of the ClearView Communities treatment program in Frederick, Maryland, for adults with severe and persistent mental illness. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Association for Community Integration Programs and the Frederick County (M.D.) Board of Education’s Strategic Special Education Work Group.

Kim Nelson, M.A., Marketing and Outreach Director, joined CooperRiis after an art therapy clinical internship.
