Marylène Gagné, Ph.D (Ph.D. University of Rochester) is Professor at the Future of Work Institute at Curtin University, in Perth, Australia. Prior to that, she was Head of the Management and Organisations Discipline at the University of Western Australia Business School. She is generally interested in what motivates paid and volunteer workers. Her research examines how organisations, through their structures, cultures, rewards, tasks, and management, affect people’s motivational orientations. She also examines the consequences of these orientations for individual and organisational performance, and for individual mental health. Her work has been published in both management and psychology journals and books, which have been cited over 15,000 times. She has edited the Oxford Handbook of employee engagement, motivation and self-determination theory. She is past associate editor for the European Journal of Work and Organizational Psychology and currently serves on many other editorial boards. She is also a Member-at-Large representative for the Society for the Study of Motivation.
